This phrase is used most often when the speaker wants to indicate the great distance one thing is from another. This can be both physically or metaphorically.
- Jack: What’s the difference between a Ford and Ferrari? They’re both just cars...!
Oren: Are you kidding me??? The quality of a Ford is a far cry from a Ferrari! - George: What did you think of the hotel?
Adam: The hotel was nice, but it was a far cry from what I was expecting! The pictures of the hotel I saw on the internet made the hotel look a lot more luxurious than it was. - A Mexican friend of mine and I went to a Mexican restaurant yesterday because we heard the salsa there was really good. I thought the salsa was great, but my friend thought the salsa was a far cry from what she was used to back home in Mexico.
